The Need for Affordable Housing

NYS Habitat affiliates built over 100 homes in 2008.  Although these homes addressed the needs of 100 NYS families, at this rate of building, it will take Habitat 5,536 years to solve the current housing problem alone.

Habitat for Humanity believes that every man, woman and child in New York has a right to a safe and affordable place to live. While building homes is central to our mission, it’s only one piece of the puzzle.

Habitat for Humanity-NYS Legislative Agenda

HFH-NYS is supporting:

  1. Assembly Bill A09115 and Senate Bill S5727, The Empire State Housing Investment Fund Act of 2009. The Housing Investment Fund will create a true affordable housing trust fund with a dedicated revenue stream. Such a fund will create a permanent vehicle to provide flexible support for affordable housing for years to come while stimulating economic development across the state.

  2. The maximization of the state’s capital investment in affordable and supportive housing.
