Tithing

In 2009 HFH-NYS supported the ministry of Habitat for Humanity Haiti.

Habitat for Humanity affiliates are encouraged to donate 10% of their unrestricted revenue to home building efforts outside the U.S. In most cases, the cost of building a home abroad is much lower than in the United States, so even small donations go a long way toward helping those in need.

The Need in Haiti:

80% of the Haitian population is living under the poverty line and 54% in abject poverty
10,425 houses were destroyed, and 44,334 more suffered significant damage from the 2008 hurricane season
111,391 Haitians were forced into temporary shelters in 2008

Finished home in Haiti

HFH Haiti has provided more than 2,000 families with housing solutions (1,794 with new homes) through a variety of initiatives including projects for new home construction, progressive building, and home improvements.
