Capitol Build Day Volunteer Information

Thank you for joining Habitat for Humanity of New York State and our affiliates from across the state as we gather to frame a home on the grounds of the Capitol. We will build side-by-side with members of the NYS Legislature as a show of support for affordable homeownership opportunities in New York State. The house framed at the event will be used in an actual Habitat home here in New York!

Date: Tuesday, May 21, 2024 – 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM
Location: West Capitol Park, State Street, Albany, NY 12210

Construction Schedule

8:45am: First shift of volunteers arrive, sign in and head to the worksite
9:00am: Morning meeting! This provides a site overview and Habitat for Humanity info
9:15am: Opening remarks, welcoming
12:00pm: Second shift of volunteers arrive, all break for lunch
1:00pm: Afternoon meeting for second shift volunteers

The volunteer shifts will begin promptly at 9am and 1pm. To make the most of volunteer time, we ask that morning volunteers arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in and prepare for the day, and afternoon volunteers join us for lunch at noon. After volunteers are checked in, we provide an orientation for the day, giving an overview of the day’s work as well as critical safety information.

What You Need to Know:

What should I wear?

Regardless of the tasks being performed, volunteers should at all times wear appropriate clothing to the site including sturdy, closed toed shoes. DO NOT wear open-toed shoes.

We will also be providing volunteers special event t-shirts!

What should I bring?

While water will also be available on site, we recommend bringing your own water bottle.

*Gloves and safety masks will be provided upon request

Where can I park?

Parking is available via paid public visitor lots and street parking within walking distance of the site. For GPS purposes, an address of “West Capitol Park, State St, Albany, NY” can be used for walking/driving directions.

Note: There will a marked emergency parking order on State St. to allow for transport of materials and logistics, so parking may not be available on the street immediately adjacent to the event site.
