Chief Executive Officer

Michael Barrett

Michael joined Habitat with extensive leadership experience. He brings two decades of executive level experience in three gubernatorial administrations and held high level policymaking roles across various sectors (economic development, environment, criminal justice, and emergency management). He also directed two executive agencies and co-founded the first nonprofit of its kind in the United States. Prior to coming to Habitat, he led the Adirondack Mountain Club through a strategic planning process where recommendations were fully implemented.

Michael has also published two novels, was the former publisher of Adirondack magazine, commentary editor-in-chief of the Journal of Legal Medicine, and author of numerous newspaper articles. Former adjunct professor of constitutional law at the University of Missouri. He is the recipient of the Dorsey Award by the American Bar Association.

Amy Anselm

Originally from central New York, Amy spent 10 years in North Carolina, 10 years in Colorado, and 7 more in Kentucky before finally making her way home to Truxton, NY in 2024. She first joined Habitat as a weekly volunteer with the Wake County affiliate while getting her Bachelor’s degree at NC State University and has built more than 60 homes as a construction expert with affiliates including Habitat Metro Denver and Greater Cincinnati.

Before joining Habitat for Humanity of New York State, Amy served on the U.S. Construction team at Habitat for Humanity International supporting construction code compliance, grants, and training programs. Her focus areas include production innovations like modular homes and Accessory Dwelling Units, home design improvements like advanced accessibility and structural resilience, as well as organizational support topics that build affiliate capacity and growth across NY state.

Erica Scheer

Erica Scheer is a nonprofit professional specializing in grants management, governance, and events. She brings experience supporting the full grant lifecycle, coordinating board and committee activities, planning events and strengthening internal systems to improve efficiency. In addition to her professional work, she also serves as Secretary of the Board of the Lark Street Business Improvement District, supporting resident and business initiatives that creatively elevate and promote Lark Street.
