Habitat NYC Launches Emergency Housing Response Fund

We are in this together.

We are told to stay at home to fight the spread of COVID-19, but there are too many families for whom home is overcrowded, unhealthy or unaffordable. There are hard-working families whose income was reduced, or they have experienced a lay-off, making it impossible to provide for their families, afford rent or pay their mortgage.

For the millions of New Yorkers who do have safe, stable housing, they are at home wondering, ‘What can I do? How can I help families whose homes aren’t safe or affordable right now?’ We have an answer.

Habitat NYC’s Emergency Housing Response Fund.

With an initial goal of $500,000 in services and support, the EHRF seeks to undertake the following projects:

  • Repurposing Sydney House as emergency housing for healthcare workers.
  • Deploying ReStore trucks to support community food delivery efforts.
  • Offering mortgage relief for our portfolio of Habitat Homeowners.
  • Providing low-income New Yorkers support with urgent housing and financial needs.
  • Forming a home repair team to support vulnerable New Yorkers.
  • Creating an Urgent Needs Fund for furloughed non-profit employees.
